This is called a GEN4 swap around these parts. I paid a boat load of cash for an ECU and a wire harness, plug and play. The people that did the job? Don't bother, they suck. I put the engine in the car, new clutch, new tune up parts etc--
Long story short- I got it done, running and it makes about 265/275 BHP. Fun, sounds basically the same as it did before, but much faster and the guy that I did it for? Let's call him Farnsworth. From Futurama. His name is Ray, but I like Farnsworth better. Great old car dude.
He's 82, almost 83. He drove the wheels off the thing for 2 months. One day- IT OVERHEATED.
Boo... Hiss... The crowd goes wild... Screw that- I was like "NO WAY IT WAS SOMETHING I DID".
No idea what actually happened but I went to his house to see W The actual F happened. I pressure tested it, holds pressure. Seems like his fans aren't kicking on, but it needed re-filled and properly bled to get those to work.
I posted about it on FecesBook and I got the awesome call on the tele from all the way across the pond as he does, from Mr Wood. I was doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. Dammit! I had a feeling it was plugged somewhere, but until I was hit in the head with a dose of reality- I didn't want to face it.
I was told, drain it out, disconnect everything and flush all the tubes, the heater matrix - everything Re- fill and start over. I've done three other swaps mind you, I know the MR2 fairly well- It bled properly when I built it... But not this time.
Had about 6 hours in it at this point when the call came in and I said... "OK, that's enough for today". Went home, made spaghetti and opened several beers.
So it looks something like this:
