July 21st 2016
Ok my garage is now clear and she is over the pit First impressions are very good I knew it would need a bit of work on the sills Turns out the boot floor corners are also rather rusty And exhaust hanger A little bit of surface rust around the front arb mounts but nothing going through Conclusion its an achievable project i think. Now how do i get those pesky plastic side vents off? Bumhole! I can't see any of these pics! My other mac can't see them either! Could you try and get Firefox or Chrome on your mac it should work on either of them. I'm looking into it but not finding much.

July 31st 2016 Well well well What do we have 'ere No its not the same car, im not that fast. This will be my donor for this project. It should be a rev2 but need to confirm Now it does look quite tidy from a distance but its an absolute dog underneath The sills have desintegrated all the way down, front strut mounts are made of filler  There isnt really a straight panel on it. It used to be turquoise and its quite obvious when you look closely, the paint quality is quite poor. Rust is making a bid for freedom Now i want you to imagine a monkey with a welder. So what was the point of driving half way across the country for this car To be perfectly honest not as much as i had hoped for but. The interior will match Skys color rather well. Also i liked the bodykit, half stainless exhaust (although its possibly a bit loud), last but not least the engine runs well and sounds quite good so if i need a spare i know where to find one. So any bits people would like to place bagsies on, do people still bagsie things? anyway please speak now or forever hold your peace, ok probably not forever but your chances of getting it might be lower. Although you can all keep your greasy mits off the bodykit and interior as im keeping them.

Guess i'll have to wait for the BodgeWerks calendar, i'm just a little reluctant to order one as yacrow reckons big chris has reserved the centre spread for him au natural. That or decimus was doing a pictorial on something odd.

August 05th 2016 Haha yes they certainly did make it look good. However its starting to show its darker side. Now this "welding" was done by a garage Another half job thats been done on this car The sills were made of paint and undersealer and filler This car had an MOT till last year, it must have been a very friendly mot station, which is rather worrying. There was a brief moment where i wondered which one would be best to do up, i think that decision has now been made very clear.

Wow the amount of bodged work on the donor car is incredible. I wont bore you with a long list of the rusty points, it would be faster to say the none rusty points. But i will show off the good parts i have scavenged. 2 almost brand new front wings(no rust ect) Although someone has chopped side repeaters into it  2 good rear corners which had been sort of welded on Both rear drops are immaculate which are rotten on mine 4x decent brake disks Smoked front lights, but need new reflectors as ones missing and the other is cracked. I tested them in mine and quite liked the look. Not overly sold on the orange side indicators with the smoked lenses though, i have some plans but nothing concrete on them. So i have some work to do but i think with all the good panels it will make it easier. Started removing the front off mine and finding rust, oh what a surprise.
I will start rubbing down and filling the hole on the replacement wings soon i probably need to invest in some paint first though.

August 09th 2016 Well we now have access to the workshop again so guess what that means, yep the mk1 is back in there to find the knocking noise, took about 10 seconds of searching before i discovered i had not tightened the front engine mount properly. So mk1 back out and test driven with no knocking :phew: Now its time for the work to begin. Spanners in hand and AC-DC blasting on the speakers i got stuck in, and so did the rain. Now i did mention something about front wings and filler but that will have to wait for now. So got the drivers side jacked so i can start cutting but i decided to explore a little more first, so i spent most if the time looking at the rust rather than doing anything about it. Drivers wing came off though, im very happy with the inside as there is almost no rust. So it can go back on
Next step is to chop some of this rust out and begin making some new panels and welding the replacement sill ends on. Stay tuned for some grinder action in the next update.

August 13th 2016 Right where do i begin. Lets start by saying that my mk1 in now back on the road again after a new head gasket "toyota this time" and bolts. I have also learned my lesson about using cheap gaskets and not getting head bolts tight enough.
Hmm it appears someone has parked 2 tonne of rust and electrical issues over the pit. Ah well lets get on with the grinder outside I figured i will start at the back and work my way forward. So lets look at these lacey inner arches
Since i have a full arch off the donor i decided to cut a strip of the entire inner arch out.
Also had the fun of seperating the inner and outer arch on the repair piece, but i got there. A bit more cutting round the sides Need to decide what im going to do here, think a new piece welded in will work best

Nope, the exhausts didn't work. how about the first pic or the most recent ones? All of the pics in the new kids on the block thread apart from the exhaust ones work, all of your other pics show a little blue box with a white question mark in it. I think I need mario to jump on it and see what comes out.

Hmm I have an idea can you right click on the last image I uploaded and "copy image location" or view image and the copy what's in the address bar. If you can send me that then I might be able to understand the problem.

August 14th 2016 So we have a hole and a rough panel, what can we do with that. Start by chopping the rest of the rust out Then get the new panel into the same shape as the hole after lots of fettling Lots of tacks
And fill in the gaps, its just like join the dots but you have to start by making the paper then rub it all out so it looks like you havnt done anything.
I wasnt able to get a very good photo of the inner arch and the welding was a bit shoddy under there anyway. I dont think i had cleaned enough undersealer off so it contaminated the weld.
Had a good scrub here though
I was surprised how solid it was after some de-ruster gel and i was able to fill the holes with weld in it. I think it has had a bump on that rear corner and all the weld marks that can be seen on the inner side of the arch are from welding the dent puller to the pannel. It does explain why there is so much filler.
Still have to outer panel on the rear end to cut and weld on, then i can start on the rest of it.

Thanks It would go alot faster if my mk1 didnt keep needing work, i think shes jealous about sharing the workshop. If its not engine problems then its something else. Had an incident on the way to work yesterday.
Yet another delay in the project.
